52 Challenges

This is a collection of 52 challenges to be performed in life. These tasks are specifically designed to push you out of your ordinary existence. Some of these tasks will come easily, and others may be more difficult. But each one is a challenge, small or great.

You can do them in order, backwards, or even choose them at random. You can do one per day for 52 weeks (a year!), one per day for 52 days (7 weeks and 3 days!) or one per year (over half the average lifespan!). Heck, you could do them all in a single day if you were feeling wild, I don't care. Just go for it, friend! You got this. What's important is that you made the effort to challenge yourself.

If you don't feel that you're able to complete some of these challenges, try meditating on what it is that’s keeping you from completing the task. You can always come back later if one seems too much for you. There is always time, and you making the effort is what’s truly important.

1. Draw a doodle. It doesn't matter if it's any good.

2. Take a walk with your phone off. Leave it at home if you're feeling bold.

3. Call someone a "legend." Any reason is acceptable.

4. Watch a TV show, movie, or internet video you normally wouldn't watch. Watch from beginning to end, no matter what.

5. Buy some food and give it to someone. It doesn’t matter who, so long as they're HUNGRY!

6. Type some gibberish into a search engine and see what comes up. If you don't know what a search engine is, try googling it.

7. Clean something you usually forget to clean. There’s always something that needs a good clean.

8. Make friends with something that isn't human. Anything works (except for a human).

9. Play a game you've never played before. "Game" refers to any definition of the word.

10. Talk to someone you've never spoken to before. Beware of stranger danger!

11. Wear something that you've always felt was a little "too much." You know what I'm talking about.

12. Visit somewhere you've never visited before. Please be careful not to put yourself or others in harm’s way.

13. Pretend today is your birthday. If today really is your birthday, happy birthday!

14. Browse a newspaper or website you normally wouldn't look at. Is there something interesting that catches your eye?

15. Give something away. It doesn't matter what it is, or who it's to, so long as it feels meaningful.

16. Make a list of everything you're grateful for. Don't forget even the smallest of blessings!

17. Do someone a big favor. You'll know what it is when you see the opportunity.

18. Sit alone with your thoughts. Do this until either your mind quiets, or you need to get going.

19. Be incredibly friendly today. Incredibly.

20. Chase some pigeons. Please don't actually catch them.

21. Tell someone a secret. Big or small, it just has to be good.

22. Make an animal feel valued. I believe in you.

23. Wear something inside-out all day. If that's too much, wear it backwards instead.

24. Let go of something that's been holding you back. This may not be easy, but you won't regret it.

25. Taste something you thought you didn't like. Bonus points if you were wrong.

26. Write down all of your passing thoughts on a piece of paper. You can use the back if necessary.

27. Destroy the piece of paper. Please recycle!

28. Smell something interesting.* *Please don't smell anything toxic.

29. Brush your teeth with your eyes closed. You can brush them a second time if you think you missed a spot.

30. Go out of your way to have a meaningful conversation. Even if it's with yourself.

31. Dance but pretend you're invisible. Make sure you have enough room for this endeavor.

32. Listen to a radiostation/podcast/conversation you wouldn't normally listen to. What was said that applies to you?

33. Leave something a little more beautiful than how you found it. I wish more people would do this in general.

34. Consider how you'd like to change your life and what steps are necessary to get there.  Maybe write them down if you like what you think.

35. Tell someone "I love you." Mean it.

36. Create a new song that's meaningful to you. We all have a song in our heart.

37. Drink a little extra water. Do this instead of whatever you'd normally drink for the rest of the day.

38. Write down your dreams. If you can't remember them, write down one you do remember, or maybe even make one up!

39. Leave something special where someone can find it. Please don't litter.

40. Go for an adventure! Tell someone how it went.

41. Make a friend. You can do it!

42. Take a nap for 15 minutes. Maybe set an alarm if you're worried about oversleeping.

43. Look at people around you. Study how they act.

44. Make up your own challenge. See if a friend wants to try it with you.

45. Learn something new. Nobody knows everything!

46. Take 15 deep breaths with your eyes closed. Don't fall asleep!

47. Tell someone how much you appreciate them. If you can't think of a reason why, make one up.

48. Make some art. Give it away.

49. Do something you will be proud of tomorrow. Tomorrow you should thank yourself for doing it.

50. Think of an object near you that comes in large numbers. Count out 50 of them.

51. Meditate on what color your eyes have never seen before. What would it look like?
